How to create and submit your BrainFood "recipes"

Send us some of your BrainFood. Business owners can benefit greatly from the ideas, insights, and experiences of people like you … and other successful people you know. 
You've learned the hard way; now share what you've learned the easy way. Contribute written and recorded content for inclusion on our BrainFood menus. Share your know-how with business owners throughout the world by cooking up your own BrainFoodToGo.com. 
We encourage written and recorded submissions as described below.  
  • Tip Sheets: These are brief, single topic articles that provide nitty-gritty know-how in a condensed format that is custom designed to stimulate thinking and provide immediately actionable ideas. These collections of Brass Tacks Tips range from 100 to 1000 words in length that can be read on line or downloaded as PDF file for printing via any PC. 
  • Tip ListsShort lists of tips based on accomplished venturers' learning and experience. The are simple, old-fashioned, to-the-point itemizations of advice, insights, counsel, suggestions and admonitions from people who've "been there; done that.”
  • Audios: These MP3 programs range from two to ten minutes in length and can be listed to on line or downloaded for replay via iPods, compatible cell phones, PCs, or other listening devices. 
  • Videos: These MP4 programs range from two to ten minutes in length and can be viewed on line or downloaded for replay via iPods, compatible cell phones, PCs, or other viewing devices. 
  • Legacies of Legends: These audio and video programs are personal legends and company histories that range from thirty to sixty minutes in length. They can be downloaded as MP3 or MP4 files or obtained on Legacies of Legends CDs. These offerings can also be compiled as printed books.
Send us your written submissions via e-mail and your digital recordings as e-mail attachments.  We can use both audio and video recordings.  If you believe that a recorded one-on-one interview with you would allow you to present your material more effectively, let us know about your topic and your availability for a telephone interview.

Keep in mind, also, that all materials submitted to us become the property of BrianFoodToGo.com and the Center for Business Ownership Inc. and, by virtue of your submission of them to us, their use becomes subject to the terms and conditions of an Agreement which permits the non-exclusive re-distribution of your submissions, or edited versions thereof, worldwide.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS

Guidelines for written submissions
  • Content can be:
    • Created by you
    • Culled by you directly from another identified source. Provide a brief description or bio of the source. An e-mail address or telephone number that can be used to verify the source and the validity of the submission should also be provided. 
    • Abstracted from materials created by others. Abstracts should comply with the Fair Use doctrine or be accompanied by permission from other original creator. In all cases, give credit (author, title and publisher of original source) for submitted material that has been aggregated from other sources. An e-mail address or telephone number that can be used to verify the source should also be provided. 
    • Summarized and paraphrased from the observations and conclusions of a recognized figure (e.g. historian, philosopher, “thinker,” pundit, etc.) if the material so sourced is relevant to the listening audience and if credit is given.
  • Written content for printable articles we call TipSheets works best if it

    • Runs from 100 to 1000 words in length. 
    • Focuses on only one principal topic, issue, event or personage.
    • Includes relevant quote(s), and/or significant facts or statistics historical or contemporary)
  • Written content for printable TipLists should follow the guidelines that can be seen by clicking here.

Written scripts for use by us in the production of a BrainFoodToGo audio or video podcasts should adhere to these criteria:

    • Tailor your submitted written material to the time period targeted:
      • 90 seconds = Approx. 225 words
      • 2 minute = Approx. 300 words
      • 5 minute = Approx. 450 words
      • 7 minute = Approx. 750 words
    • Write content for single-person narration.
    • Limit verbatim quotations of others’ source materials to an aggregate total of less than 50 words;
    • Include any suggestions you have that will enhance audio or video presentation (e.g. sound effects, graphs, etc.)

Guidelines for audio and video submissions

The guidelines for written submissions (see above) apply to audio and video productions as well.

In addition, already recorded audio and video podcasts that you submit should be formatted in accordance with these guidelines:
  • Audio recording should be submitted in the MP3 format
  • Videos can be used if they are in the MP4 format.
  • Tailor your material to the time period targeted:
    • 90 seconds = Approx. 225 words
    • 2 minute = Approx. 300 words
    • 5 minute = Approx. 450 words
    • 7 minute = Approx. 750 words
  • Presentation format should be single-person narration or (one or more) one-on one interviews.
  • Presenter should employ a conversational tone without sacrificing pointed delivery.
  • Recorded third-party quotes and comments can be inserted with subject’s permission or if such quotes are in the public domain.
  • Sound and video effects may be used for emphasis; Graphs, charts and lists add value to video productions.  Open and close music may be used, but “fading musical beds” should not be employed   
Guidelines for submission of audio or video Legacies of Legends
The guidelines for written submissions (see above) apply to audio and video productions as well. 
In addition, recorded audio and video productions that you submit should be formatted in accordance with these guidelines:
  • Audio recording should be submitted in the MP3 format
  • Videos can be used if they are in the MP4 format.
  • Tailor your material to a thirty-minute or sixty-minute time period:
  • It should be a one-on-one interview that features an abundance of close-ups
  • Cutaways to other interview subjects discussing the topic of your presentation are allowed
  • Discussion should employ a conversational tone without sacrificing focus
  • Recorded third-party quotes and comments can be inserted if such quotes are in the public domain or such content has been cleared for use.
  • Sound and video effects may be used for emphasis; Graphs, charts and lists add value to video productions. 
  • Open and close music may be used, but “fading musical beds” should not be employed

Guidelines for Professional writers and producers

We encourage submissions and digital audio and video recordings from:
  • Individuals who pursue writing as a profession or an avocation.
  • Publishers of current or out-of-print books; monographs; articles, transcripts; scripts; “factoids” from surveys and studies; journal articles; case studies; theses; or research papers. 
  • “Podcasters” who have produced digitized audio programming and would like to “re-feed” it to entirely new audiences.  We are the 21st century Radio of Choice! 
  • Editors who are interested in condensing the in-demand works of other authors and creators in accordance with the BrainFoodToGo.com style guidelines.  
Audiences

When preparing content always keep in mind the nature of our audiences. While our programs can be downloaded, free of charge, from the BrainFoodToGo.com® web site by anyone at anytime, our principal audiences consists of business owners, their family members and managers, and the professionals who serve them.  Regular listeners can also arrange to have new programs and printouts automatically forwarded via RSS protocol to a designated file folder or a “podcatcher” on their computers.  We provide special e-mail distribution of program and printout links to: Membership organizations, affinity groups and alumni associations; libraries; coaches and counselors; corporate training departments; university distance learning coordinators; trade associations, franchisees and independent contractors’ associations; and Chambers of Commerce and economic development organizations.   
 
NOTICE
When necessary, we re-format and re-edit submissions to accommodate the standards expected by our audiences.  The final product is offered to listeners as an MP3 audio file that can be played on their PCs, downloaded to a digital audio player like an iPod, or burned to a CD for listening anywhere.  Upon receipt of your submitted material, the Electromedia Technologies Corporation, creator of BrainFoodToGo.com, or the Center for Business Ownership Inc. will assumes non-exclusive, unlimited rights to edit, condense, distribute and disseminate in any manner said materials without limitation.  Continuing credit will be afforded all writers and producers. If our portal manager becomes aware of a copyright or trademark claim or dispute involving any content being displayed on this portal, the material in questions will be removed immediately and efforts will be made to resolve the dispute and honor legitimate claims.
