A centuries-old "business model" has been adopted by Brass Tacks Publishing Inc. to provide free eBooks and audio books to the millions of readers in the business community who are adopting new digital technologies. With the support of Patrons, the publisher is recruiting students – as well as  educators, and retired executives – to the task of creating no-cost, need-to-know BrainFood eBooks for business owners, managers, entrepreneurs, -- and other students -- around the world.
The publisher furnishes guidebooks to help authors improve their writing and research skills, and it provides all the editing and book production/distribution support required. These books are distributed at not cost to interested individuals, business organizations, libraries, educational institutions, and the clients and constituents of Patrons.  
In addition to enjoying a more satisfying learning exercise than the dreaded term paper, students gain valuable exposure in the world of business via links to their e-mail address, URLs, or social media pages that are embedded in their published materials. Cash and merchandise prizes are awarded to the creators of especially helpful materials. In addition, “yearbooks” of submissions are made available for student distribution to employer prospects.
Students are encouraged to venture into the business world to solicit first-hand content contributions from business leaders (and potential employers). Content creators can also employ hyperlinks to their published works in resumes and social media pages.  In addition to students, bloggers and aspiring “debut writers” are also invited to use this digital showcase for their talents.
The resulting publications can be easily accessed via e-book readers, digital audio listening devices, traditional PCs, and mobile platforms like pads and smart phones.
Production and distribution costs are defrayed by Patrons – sponsors and underwriters – who get prominent recognition through four discreet cover and content “messages” that appear in each publication. The publisher provides a number of book delivery programs that are designed to enhance Patrons’ marketing, community service, library support, and client relationship activities. According to Paul Willax, the company’s Chairman, “The patronage model was the prevailing practice in the world prior to the nineteenth century -- especially during the Renaissance -- and was responsible for bringing the talents of writers like Shakespeare, Jonson, daVinici, Chaucer, Barbour, Wycliffe, and others to new and larger audiences.” Patrons can commission specific titles but do not contribute or influence editorial content.
Books are non-fiction and focus on issues of interest to business owners, managers, entrepreneurs, and those who aspire to these professions. Single-topic and anthology versions are produced. Each is the equivalent of less than 100 (6in. by 9in.) pages.
