Help write a textbook

Did you know that many of the textbooks sold today aren’t even written by the “expert’ whose name is on the cover? In fact, a number of the entrepreneurship texts used today were written by people who never started or owned a business! They’re contract writers who, in too many cases, have had little experience in either education or business.

The challenge

A lot of good authors never get published since 80% of the textbook market is controlled by just five publishers. This severely restricts access and competition by and among writers who have valuable expertise. It also restricts price competition. Maybe that’s why the typical full-time college student pays $947 for textbooks every school year. High cost is one of the reasons that 20% of students opt to take the course without a text. This, of course, diminishes the benefit they get for the time spent in class….and makes teachers’ efforts more difficult and less productive.

A solution

It’s time to create a new, experience-based, student-friendly, low cost textbook for aspiring entrepreneurs. Accordingly, it is the mission of the BrainFoodToGo FreeMarket to facilitate the creation and publication of an affordable, worthwhile entrepreneurship textbook that’s actually written by the people who will use it along with folks who’ve learned the hard way in the business world. With the content that students, teachers, and professionals contribute to the FreeMarket, the folks at the Center for Business Ownership Inc. will edit, compile, print, and distribute just such a text. Importantly, the simple compilation and digital printing processes that the Center employs, coupled with the never-ending stream of new content submitted to BrainFoodToGo.com, enables the Center to update the text frequently. The envisioned textbook will be available in both print and e-book formats. It will be a perpetual work-in-progress.

Worthwhile content

Perhaps the most compelling feature about the FreeMarket textbook is the fact that it conveys the real-world experience of people who’ve “been there; done that.” A recent survey found that 90 percent of teachers believed that less prepared students would do better if they spent more time reading their textbook.
